Writing Resources

Here, you'll find a range of mini-lesson and conferencing ideas for writing. Start here, to find out a little more about why I've chosen to organise my instructional thinking around writing traits.

Each lesson has an accompanying PDF Cheat Sheet. Just click on the picture to open it for viewing or printing. You'll notice:
  • some background information
  • ideas for lesson introductions and conclusions
  • a space to draft an anchor chart
  • some suggested Australian Curriculum English Achievement Standards

Not every lesson is suitable for every year level. These Cheat Sheets aren't intended as scripts.  I fully expect that you smart people will read over the lesson suggestion, highlight the parts that resonate with you, adapt it, change up the resources, and make it work for you and for your students.

Remember to take a photo of your anchor chart - especially if it's a good one!  There's nothing worse than thinking back with great pride to a time when you delivered an awesome mini-lesson with a fabulous anchor chart.... but can't remember the key points you raised, or what, exactly, the social media-worthy anchor chart looked like!

I'm adding to The Library every week, so check back often.
